Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP/APP)

Per Texas Board of Nursing regulations and hospital policy, this position requires current national board certification as an ACUTE CARE nurse practitioner licensed in the state of Texas as such, or eligible for licensure in the state of Texas as an ACUTE CARE nurse practitioner. Alternatively, nationally board certified physician assistants with advanced practice experience in critical care and current Texas licensure or eligible for Texas licensure will also be considered on an individual basis for the position.

Job Summary

Pittsburgh Critical Care Associates (PCCA), a private practice intensivist group, is hiring Acute Care Nurse Practitioners (ACNP) to work in the PCCA managed medical and surgical ICU at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene, Texas.

The Medical Surgical ICU will be staffed and managed by PCCA and will operate as a true intensivist program, with the intensivist serving as head of the multidisciplinary team, overseeing and managing all critically ill patients, and working closely with surgeons, emergency medicine physicians, pulmonary medicine physicians, hospitalists and support staff.

Program Model

The intensivst service provides 24-hour coverage in the M/S ICU. Intensivist physicians work a 7-day block of 12-hour day shifts 7am to 7pm with support provided by daytime APP’s. At 7pm the intensivst and daytime APP’s sign out to the night APP’s who cover until 7am.

The Intermediate and Intermediate step-down ICU staffed by the Hospitalist team allows for easy transfers out of the ICU for lower acuity patients that still need close monitoring.

LTACH available in-hospital for patients with prolonged critical illness.

Schedule

This is a true Intensivist Program. The intensivist service provides 24-hour coverage in the 24-bed Medical Surgical ICU.

The APP will work two weeks a month, 26 weeks a year

  • A week of days, Monday through Sunday (7am to 7pm)
  • A week off
  • A week of nights, Monday through Sunday (7pm to 7am)
  • A week off

Compensation

The Intensivists will be employees of Pittsburgh Critical Care Associates, Inc private physician group. Full-time Intensivists receive a comprehensive benefits package, including malpractice and health insurance, employer-contributed retirement funds with 401K option and reimbursable CME. The salary is nationally competitive.
